A gallery you walk into, with friends

A social VR gallery on Oculus Quest: your NFTs on the walls, friends in the room, portals to other galleries.

What it was

Blueroom was a social VR gallery for Oculus Quest. Your NFTs hung in a room you could walk through, friends could join you there as avatars, and portals led to other people's galleries, with NFT trading inside the headset. I founded it and built the app.

The problem

The headset holds one copy of the world and the blockchain holds the true one. An object sold elsewhere is still standing in the room. The app has to notice when what it shows no longer matches the record, and repair it without breaking the scene.

Under the hood

Re-creation of the problem with a standard method and synthetic data · not production code

Result

  • CVReleased to a closed beta of about 50 early users.
  • CVIterated on trading and content features before discontinuing the venture.

What carried forward

A displayed state that drifts from the truth is the thread through my work: tracking drift on the HoloLens before this, and words drifting from actions in Usercase after it.
